about

When I was growing up, and actually went to church around age 6, I remember driving on Sunday mornings with my family. We cycled through a few CDs my dad had in his car. Really, none of them were that great or important to me -- except for Elton John's "Greatest Hits 1970-2002". My dad would skip right to track 2, every time: Levon.

This feels like the first song that made a lasting impact on me. I still love it so, so much. The idea of a young person who feels that their life has been decided for them is very powerful to me. The need to break out and experience more than we are handling every day is something a lot of people relate to. I've wanted to record an original rendition of the song for a while now, and since Elton John has recently announced his final tour ever, it seemed appropriate to bring this to the light.

Hope you enjoy. And if you haven't heard the original track, definitely do that before you play this. Thanks to everyone who listens! HT

I recorded this back in May of 2017 with my good friends Dan Siper and Jake Kampman. Jake and Dan engineered it. It was a really great process working with them after they had recorded "Strings" with me. The energy was real and the product is a direct result of the friendship we had formed in and out of the studio.

Dan, of course, worked his magic mixing and mastering the jawn. He does great work. You should check out his other stuff or have him work on a record with you. You won't regret it.

I played all the instruments on this one. Special thanks to Derrick Dieso for letting me use his stacked pedal board and to Austin Paragas for letting me use his bass.

This photo was taken by James Lewis. Great guy. He let me take the photo and fuck with the colors to try to emulate the original artwork for this song.

The song was originally written by Elton John with lyrics by Bernie Taupin.

I hope I don't get in trouble for doing this..
